Windows are needed component in all homes in the south and the north alike. Windows are great to see what's going on outside the home and allows fresh air to enter when open. But single pane windows are poor at energy efficiency. Because the glass is thin, hot and cold temperatures transfer through them easily. In addition, windows create a situation called the Green House Effect. The Green House Effect occurs when heat is trapped in an area and begins to rise in temperature. Windows basically create the Green House Effect by allowing 83% of the sun's solar heat to enter the home, but only lets 50% escape back out. Reflecting the other 50% back into the house.
