Definitions

Incandescent- An electric current passes through a thin filament, heating it until it produces light

Fluorescent- Using the gas fluorescence inside a glass tube as a partial vacuum small amounts of mercury are electrically charged emitting light

CFL- Compact Fluorescent lighting- Much like the long light bulbs in your office but compact to fit into most lamps, fixtures and recess cans

Incandescent vs. Compact Fluorescent Bulbs(CFL's)
  • Incandescent bulbs last 600 – 900 hours.
  • CFL bulbs last 6000-8000 hours.
  • A 60w incandescent bulb gives 54w-heat and 6w to lighting.
  • That means INCREASED HEAT IN YOUR HOME!
  • Surface temp can reach 175 degrees. 60w(=)CFL bulb give 8w-heat and 5w-lighting!
CFL’s have 85% less heat and use 75% less electricity.
